The Hilo Ceramics Club will hold its annual holiday ceramics sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Higashi Hongwanji Mission at the corner of Mohouli and Kapiolani streets in Hilo.
“A wide variety of both functional and artistic works will be available,” said club spokeswoman Mary Nielsen. “Everything from cups and bowls to stunning vases, both large and small.”
The artists use food-safe glazes on the functional pieces, and if high fired (fired to a temperature where the clay and glaze fuse into glass) are food safe, oven safe and dishwasher safe.
The Hilo Ceramics Club was formed in 2012 by students attending ceramics classes at Hawaii Community College, Nielsen said. Now, the independent group includes artists from across Hilo and East Hawaii and holds a sale twice a year.
